If you’re evaluating an AI tool for a team that works in Arabic — or partly in Arabic, partly in English, the way most MENA offices actually operate — this is usually the first question, and it deserves a straight answer before anything else: yes, Claude Code supports Arabic, both reading it and writing it, fluently, not as a bolted-on translation layer.

Ask for a reply, a summary, or a draft in Arabic, and you get real Arabic prose — properly structured sentences with correct grammar and register, not a stilted word-for-word rendering that reads like it was run through a translation tool. It can match a formal business register or a casual one, depending on what you ask for.
It moves between languages naturally. A huge amount of real MENA business communication is mixed — a WhatsApp message half in Arabic and half in English, a report requested in English about a conversation that happened in Arabic. Claude handles that mixing the way a genuinely bilingual colleague would, rather than getting confused or defaulting to one language.
It’s not limited to chat. Because Claude Code works inside your actual files, this extends beyond a text box: it can read an Arabic-language spreadsheet, restructure an Arabic Word document, or extract data from an Arabic PDF — the same operations it does in English, applied to Arabic content.
What right-to-left (RTL) actually means here
Right-to-left, or RTL, is the reading direction Arabic (and a handful of other languages) use — text flows from right to left, and so does the layout around it: navigation, alignment, even the direction icons point. Getting RTL right is a display and layout question as much as a language one, and it’s worth separating two things that people often bundle together:
- Does Claude write correct Arabic script? Yes — that’s a language capability, and it’s true regardless of what you’re viewing the output in.
- Does the surface you’re reading on display that Arabic correctly, right to left, with the layout mirrored? That depends on the app or document, not on Claude. Most modern apps, browsers, and word processors handle Arabic RTL natively. This course’s own site is a working example: switch to the Arabic pages and the entire layout mirrors automatically — text alignment, navigation, reading order — while things like code snippets and commands correctly stay left-to-right, because code doesn’t mirror even inside an Arabic page. That’s the right behavior, and it’s what you should expect from any properly built Arabic surface, not just this one.
If you paste Claude’s Arabic output into a tool that doesn’t handle RTL well, that’s a limitation of that destination, not of the Arabic text itself.
